“Oni Wa Soto~! Fuku Wa Uchi~!!” “Demons Out! Fortune In!” On February 4th, the English club introduced the Japanese event of ‘Setsubun’, to international students. Setubun is around February 3rd, and divides the seasons between winter and spring. We throw roasted soybeans to drive out evil spirits and pray for good health on Setubun.
First of all, the students made a demon mask,
Second, they prepared the beans,
There was time to throw the beans!
“Oni Wa Soto~Fuku Wa Uchi~” “Demons Out! Fortune In!”
We drove away evil spirits and prayed for good health.
We are supposed to eat the same number of
beans as our age, wishing for our health
on Setsubun, but we ended up eating as many
as we wanted. Surely this means we will all live
well into our hundreds!
