April

■Entrance Ceremony

We accept exchange students from all over the world.  They usually start in April or September.  Most of them come to Japan through AFS, YFU, or WYS.

This is an event for all the students of International Course.  They get together in the auditorium/ gym, mingle and take part in a variety of fun activities. This meeting helps the first-year students integrate into the school and international course.

■Mid-term exams

■EIKEN, Test of Practical English Proficiency No.1

The score of this English Proficiency Test helps the students enter college.
Any level higher than Grade 2 will give an advantage depending on score. Most of the students in International Course usually achieve Grade 2 or higher by their graduation. 

■One-day School Trip

June

The 2nd year students visit JICA Nagoya and learn about International Cooperation, SDGs, and the problems faced by developing countries.  They can also try various folk costumes and buy fair-trade products in the JICA shop.

■Application for International Exchange / Visiting Programs

There are various international exchange/ visiting programs held during summer vacation. Some are sponsored by the board of education.  Some are prepared by private international organizations.  In addition, there are scholarships available for the students who apply to these programs. Every year many international course students utilize these services.

■International Exchanges

We are open to International Exchanges all the year round, but many groups from overseas schools have visited us this season.  (College students from Macao are making presentations in the picture below

Aug.

■Open School

Junior high school students can try our English class in this event.  For two days during  summer vacation, we open our school for junior high school students who are interested in our school.  They can observe or join our club activities and see videos and presentations about our school by Bihoku students.

English Camp in Aichi  

The Aichi board of education organize English Camp in summer and winter.  This is a very popular event where students make friends with ALTs and students from other schools. Many International Course students take part in this program and improve their English communication skills.

■School Festival

Our School Festival consists of two cultural days and one sports day.  We start our preparation from the summer vacation.  This is one of the most exciting events for all the students. 

We are proud of our students who took part in this speech contest and impressed by their achievements. Bihoku has a track-record of winning the regionals, with recent second and third placed finishes at prefectural and national level.

■ Mid-term Exam

■Visiting Lecture/Workshop from Aichi Mirai Forum

We invite lecturers who are working in a variety of interesting international fields to speak for our students. 

■ 1st Grade English Camp

All the students in the International Course go to this English Camp when they are in the first grade.  They stay in Asahi Kogen and take English lessons for three days.  Four English instructors and four non-Japanese college students help the students practice “debate” in English.  For those three days, they are forbidden to speak Japanese, even outside the classroom.

■EIKEN, Test of Practical English Proficiency No.2

■University-High School Collaboration

The 2nd grade students in the International Course visit Nagoya University of Foreign Studies. They go to a lecture, learn the programs of study abroad, and mingle with foreign students studying in Japan.

All the students go to the theater and watch “Drama”, “Music”, or “Performance” events.

■EIKEN, Test of Practical English Proficiency No.3

Feb.

■Visiting English Class in Hotei Junior High School

  The 1st grade students visit Hotei Junior High School and give an English lesson.  Our students are divided into 6 groups and conduct English activities consisting of quizzes and games.  We always have a great time with the energetic Junior high school students.

College Counseling Seminar

The 3rd grade students, who have passed entrance exams for their first choice university, give some advice to juniors.  They talk about how to choose schools, how to study effectively, and how to get through the stressful time based on their fresh experience.

■International Exchange with Kitsilano Secondary School in Canada

For more than 20 years, we have been keeping in touch with a high school in Canada. One program is “three months exchange” and “short exchange visit”.
